Adult Standard
The default adult stall is 36" wide by 60" deep with a 24" door. This sizing has become the de-facto US standard because it accommodates the majority of adult users while fitting an efficient layout against typical commercial restroom dimensions.
Juvenile / Compact
Elementary schools and tight retail restrooms use 30" wide by 60" deep stalls with 22" doors. The narrower stall accommodates more fixtures in less wall length, which is why it's the default in K-5 facilities.
ADA Accessible
Every commercial restroom must include at least one ADA-compliant stall: 60" wide, 56–59" deep depending on toilet type, with a 32" minimum clear door opening and an outswing or sliding door. See the full requirements in our ADA compliance guide.
Ambulatory Accessible
Larger facilities (six or more stalls) typically also include an ambulatory stall: 36" wide by 60" deep with grab bars on both side walls and a 32" clear outswing door. Ambulatory stalls serve users who need grab bars but don't use a wheelchair.
