Hinge Types
Self-Closing Hinge
Spring-loaded, returns the door to a slightly open position when released. Default in US commercial restrooms.
Gravity Hinge
Cammed hinge that uses door weight to return the door to open position. No spring to fail — popular in high-traffic facilities.
Wrap-Around Hinge
Concealed hinge that wraps the pilaster, used on aluminum-edged HDPE and phenolic doors.
Continuous Piano Hinge
Full-height hinge for ADA outswing doors and security stalls. Eliminates pinch points.
When to Replace vs. Adjust
Most "broken" stall hinges just need a tension adjustment — self-closing hinges have a hex socket on top that controls return force. Replace the hinge when the cam is visibly worn, the pin is bent, or the door no longer hangs square.
